This is kind of a funny topic for me. My dad actually doesn't like nicknames and made sure to name each of us kids a name that can't really be made into a nickname. When I was growing up sometimes I got teased by people calling me Emma or Emma-Lou. My brother calls me Em as do a lot of my friends online, but that is about all.

Dale doesn't like nicknames either. When we were naming our daughter I loved the name Caitlin but Dale wouldn't let me name her that because it was a nickname for Catherine. So we named her Catherine but I called her Caitlin, for almost a year. Everywhere I went I heard the name Caitlin and I got so tired of always hearing it that I finally started calling her Catherine. I'm so glad he made me name her that. She is definitely a Catherine. :)
