Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.

{more joy} Cut the Cord

Last month Buddy & Lulu had fun learning Christmas songs in school and as we listened to the radio. After Christmas was over we stopped listening to Christmas music and started listening to Mom's new CD Day & Age by The Killers. Rob & I both like The Killers (the band, not their name) and my kids have previously sang along to "All These Things That I've Done" when we've heard it on the radio. Now Lulu's favorite song is "Human". She kept requesting to listen to it yesterday while in the car and then sang the whole song to Rob when he got home. I've got to get a video of that--so funny because she gets some of the words wrong, but knows the line "Are we Human, or are we Dancer?". As soon as Buddy hears this, he is quick to sing, "Or Prancer, or Vixon"....giggle, giggle from Buddy...scowl, scowl from Lulu. She is quite put out that Buddy would ruin her song with his antics. Meanwhile, Rob & I are just laughing and refuse to squelch Buddy's antics because, seriously, he is hilarious.
Last night I was researching the meaning of the song and learned dancer is like puppet. The song asks, are we human--do we make our own decisions, etc; or are we puppets just doing what is expected. I tried to explain this in kid-like terms today and Lulu was quick to say she is Human. Buddy isn't sure and said he wants to be both Human and Dancer. I think most of us feel the same way.

  2. Emilee, thank you for clearing up the meaning of the line from that song. Mike and I tried to find the meaning on-line and couldn't. I like the Killers, too. You probably know, the lead singer is LDS.
